|Welch Masonry is a family owned and operated business founded by my Great Grandfather and Grandfather in 1893. When they came to North Central Oklahoma during the Cherokee Strip Land Run. They promptly set up a brick manufacturing plant and proceeded to ply their craft, building many buildings in what was to become Ponca City, and the surrounding communities. |
Great Great Granddad, Daniel Raland Welch was born In Kentucky 1826. From 1856 - 1887 He built brick yards and plyed the masonry trade in various locals from Des Moines, Iowa to Independence, KS.
After WW II my Father and two of his brothers returned from the services to work the masonry business with their two younger brothers and Grandfather. Of the five Brothers one Don Welch, went to law school and eventually became a judge. Alan Welch was bought out and taught masonry for the better part of two decades at Pioneer Vo-Tech. The remaining three Brothers, Joe Welch(my Father), Leroy Welch, and Loyd Welch formed a partnership in 1960 which they built a host of commercial and residential buildings well into the 1990's .
It is with my father and two uncles I started my apprenticeship in 1979 and learned masonry along with my two brothers. Journeymen all, my brothers put themselves though college with the trade.
Today, I along with my son Will continue the tradition. The structure of Welch Masonry has changed over the generations. But the commitment to quality has stayed the same. It is this commitment to quality which has, generation after generation, given Welch Masonry a reputation second to none.
